Intro

SPEAKER_04

I'm Lauren and I'm Emily. And we're West Besties.

SPEAKER_05

Welcome. Hello, hello. It feels like it's time forever.

SPEAKER_04

I know. Summer is flying by. We've been so busy in pop culture time. It has been two years. Sorry, we are like in one week, out one week. We are really gonna try to do dedicated week to week content for you again. But thanks for um relaxing and hopefully some relaxing.

SPEAKER_05

Emily had a vacation last week, so we did not record a new potluck, but we are back. There's so much.

SPEAKER_04

I was in the Midwest Riviera, like the Ozarks.

SPEAKER_05

Megan Markle would uh totally try to trade like that.

SPEAKER_04

The Midwest French Riviera. Start making jam and you have a business, baby. I went to Roxy's on the strip and had the best corn dog of my life. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

That is so I love a vacation corndog. They have little bits of like jalapeno in the in the corn batter. Oh my god. Judd and Kara right now, somewhere they're like the hair on the back of their necks stood up and they're like have the tingles and they don't know why. Shout out.

SPEAKER_04

That's so good. I had the best time.

SPEAKER_05

When we went to Disney this year, I was like, we went two years ago, and I was like, my biggest regret is that I didn't get a corndog from the corndog castle. And you bet your ass I got one this year, and it was a true delight.

SPEAKER_04

If there is any place that has like specialty corn dogs or specialty funnel cakes, baby, I'm in locked and loaded. All right.

SPEAKER_05

That's why our podcast is called Midwest Best.

SPEAKER_04

Correct. I can't believe it took us this long to talk about corndogs.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so really big week. We had all of the Emmy nominations drop.

SPEAKER_04

We recorded and then like we had the Emmy nominations drop like the next day, and then we found out about Jack and Oh my God, I know.

SPEAKER_05

It was very similar to when Spotify Rap dropped when I was driving home from recording, and I was like, what are we gonna do about this?

SPEAKER_04

Um, get the mics back up, baby. All right, get Andy in a camera.

Emmy Nominations

SPEAKER_04

So I was really happy with the Emmys. I feel like a lot of my shows were recognized.

SPEAKER_05

I totally agree. I was like, wow, we do watch a lot of like good TV. It made me feel like I was like a tastemaker. I know. I totally agree. Because the Oscars, I'm always like, what the fuck is this? What's that movie?

SPEAKER_04

What's that movie called? Yeah. Um, first off, let's give a shout out to again. This is not a Peacock podcast trademark. Peacock is all in the award season. We got they're in the mix. I feel like we so one of the first shows we talked about on this podcast was all her fault. Yes. It was a limited series, like based on a like thriller. Um, and it got like dragged by critics.

SPEAKER_05

Dragged. And we were like, we liked it.

SPEAKER_04

There was, and it's uh nominated several times. So who's ever doing that campaigning brought Peacock's campaign?

SPEAKER_05

They have a limited series um category, right? Yes. So specifically, so that was nominated, and also Love Story was nominated. Oh my god. Which we love. What are we gonna root for? I don't know. We're kids in the middle. Like we are kids of divorced parents. Like, what are we gonna do?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I'm probably gonna do all her fault for I'm kind of well, what is the category? Let's look at it. Okay, because there might be a category that's like, oh, it's definitely gonna be that.

SPEAKER_05

We're limited or anthology series. Okay, oh, the beast in me.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, did you did you watch that?

SPEAKER_05

No, but I heard it's really good.

SPEAKER_04

And Matthew Rice, Reese, the guy who's in Widows Bay is Claire Danes, right? Yeah. Netflix. So maybe I'll watch that.

SPEAKER_05

Um, I don't think Love Story is gonna win.

SPEAKER_04

No, and I don't want it to win because I kind of don't like Ryan Murphy, even though I love it. I completely agree. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

DTF St. Louis, did you watch it? No, no one liked it. It I heard it was weird as fuck, and it looked weird as fuck. Like I wasn't even interested in watching it.

SPEAKER_04

I like, I think there's something sinister about Jason Bateman. And there's obviously something sinister about Dave Harper. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So like I also am such a hater of him that I just was like, I don't want to support him. And Jason Bateman is just Jason Bateman in everything that he does.

SPEAKER_04

I just, he's so gross. And like, and then of course, like Linda Cardinal, Linda Cardinali. Cardalini? Cardalini. I love her. I love her. So it's great. Maybe I watched that. I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

Um but kind of some topics of discussion here was that. So Sarah Snook from all her fault was nominated for best lead actress. Totally deserved. Um, Sarah Pigeon was also nominated for best lead actress. I totally want her to win. But uh was it Paul Anthony Kelly was not nominated for best lead actor.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, this is what I'm gonna say about Paul Anthony Kelly. Yes, sometimes he would say a line and I'd be like, yikes. Yeah, it was bad. But that guy like has never been in anything. It's his first time acting. He's nominated. It's a big deal. And I think he had like three weeks to prepare. Yeah, if we're talking about like and that's not what it is, like, but if it was truly about like a really special moment in acting, like he should have been recognized, I feel like it's because I have like a really big crush on him.

SPEAKER_05

But did they submit him? Or they had to have submitted him for a nomination. I feel like they had to have submitted him. So they just chose not to, which is interesting. Did you watch Beef?

SPEAKER_04

No, I just actually watched the first season of Beef. Okay, and it was I don't know if I would like I don't know if I would recommend it. I don't know. It was really good. Okay, and the acting in it was insane. Okay, Steven Queen Carrie Mulligan is so that's season two, but season one was Steven Yen.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so is it um like an anthology? Yeah. Different stories every season. That's the premise.

SPEAKER_04

So I would say it's very much like um reminiscent of Fargo, the television series. Okay, so it kind of is set around like normal people, normal settings, but then it's like all this like sinister stuff is like simmering underneath the surface. And it's essentially about a beef. Like it it the season one is about a road rage incident. Oh, it's actually really intriguable. No, I think you should watch it. What's it on? It's on Netflix. Okay. Um and then Allie Wong is the female main character of season one. Season one came out. So season one came out like years ago. This obviously is not a time.

SPEAKER_05

No, but I've only been hearing about beef lately.

SPEAKER_04

So this is the season two that just came out, and it was like I feel like season two is getting a lot of okay, that's why I love Oscar Isaac.

SPEAKER_05

But like I feel like season two is getting a lot more, people are talking about it more.

SPEAKER_04

So that's what I thought too. So when I was watching season one, Steven Yen's performance, like, there is this scene, and I apologize if I'm pronouncing his name wrong. Uh, he's the guy from The Walking Dead. Um, I love him. There is there are several scenes where I'm watching him act, and I'm like, this is the greatest acting I've ever seen in my life. Like, straight up. And I'm like, why have I not heard about this? No, he like won the Golden Globe. Oh my god, stop.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I'm an idiot. Cut that whole part.

unknown

Oops.

SPEAKER_05

I also, but like Sally Field, I didn't watch Remarkably Bright Creatures. I love Sally Field, though. The boomers have been singing, tweeting, twittering about Sally Field's performance in Remarkably Bright Creatures. And then of course Claire Danes. And I just feel like Claire Danes is probably gonna win because she's just one of those like award show darlings. Yeah, yes. Yeah. Um, okay, so that's very exciting. And then we should probably talk about comedy series because we've watched a lot of these. Um, so Hacks was nominated, nobody wants this, Widow's Bay, Shrinking, Only Murders in the Building, Margot's Got Money Troubles, and Abbott Elementary, and then rounding it out with not a comedy, The Bear. The Bear is not a comedy. Get it. Get it banned. Get them banned. Like, this has been an ongoing thing because they like have swept these categories and it fucking sucks because the comedy, like, the comedies are so fucking good, and like it makes me mad that the bear is accounted among them.

SPEAKER_04

Like, if it is a horribly depressing show, but you laugh once, it's still not a drama.

SPEAKER_05

It's not a comedy.

SPEAKER_04

It's still a drama.

SPEAKER_05

I'm not even calling that a dramedy. No, it's not. Widow's Bay dramedy.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, Widow's comedy is a comedy first. Like it's a comedy that scares you 100%. There's everything about it, and there's real emotions, and it's not a sitcom, but that is a show where it is you laugh out loud twice in episodes. Yes. I literally think there has to be a test where it's like you test the audience and how many times they laugh loud.

SPEAKER_05

What is it? Beckmel test? Yeah, yeah. They should have a comedy test. I totally agree.

SPEAKER_04

Um, I feel like all of these should go to hacks. I think hacks is the final season. And I believe it deserves.

SPEAKER_05

But Widows Bay is such a standout. I could, but okay, so here's what's interesting too is like I feel like previously Apple TV was like not like Apple TV has like some not in the conversation shows, insane production, insane actors. And they're only known for like two shows, like the morning show and like Severance. Yeah, Severance, which that's been nominated a ton, but like I feel like they're not normally this like in the conversation.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I have two nominations, shrinking and widows Bay. I know.

SPEAKER_05

Which is shrinking will not win. It does not deserve to win. I love shrinking, but like no.

SPEAKER_04

The way they go again, the campaigning, they go so hard for shrinking. Shrinking is a great mediocre show.

SPEAKER_05

A hundred percent. It's a great background show, it's a great needle point show. I like I love it. It's it's Cougar Town, it's Cougar Town. Like it's the same creator, right? Because he just creates shows that his wife can start in and be a mean and be like the same character.

SPEAKER_04

Do I believe that the person who does the interiors of that show should be nominated? Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Absa fucking literally.

SPEAKER_04

If you look at the Emmy categories, there are like categories like that. It's like best period costume.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, for sure. But like, is there best like set design? They should be in Oscars. There they should be. There definitely is, but it's more like it's like cinematic cinematography and like stuff like that. But I'm just like, I think I know that. I know. I totally agree. Full stop. Um, okay, what categories do you want me? This is oh my god, see Iowa Debris in The Bear for Outstanding Lead in a Comedy Series. Like, that is bullshit. No. Did you watch the comeback of Lisa Coudreau?

SPEAKER_04

So I think it's like on my list because it's it's one of those shows that's like in our algorithm because it yeah, the algorithm assumes we are fans of it, right? Which is always a good sign that we will like.

SPEAKER_05

It's the Venn diagram, like with hacks, I think.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Um, that's it's a hundred percent gonna go to Gene Smart. It it needs to be if it doesn't go to Gene Smart, it's gonna be. I feel like uh people are gonna be shocked.

SPEAKER_05

Is Hannah Einbender supporting? Yeah, yeah. Oh, Dale Dickie Widows Bay. Oh my god, Kato Flynn though.

SPEAKER_04

Like, I feel like Kato Flynn might win this.

SPEAKER_05

She's so fucking good in Widows Bay. If you can't tell, I started watching it. We're gonna talk about it. We're gonna talk about it later. Um, she's a fucking star. She's the breakout. Oh, Jessica Williams from Shrinking was nominated.

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, but I could also see Meg Stalter winning for hacks. She's having a moment. She's really funny in hacks.

SPEAKER_04

The summer of Meg Stalter, 1000%. You're getting outperformed by a corpse mama.

SPEAKER_03

Be the nicest girl in the whole world.

SPEAKER_05

Sorry about that, hon. I'm super bipolar. There are so many hacks clips that are no scroll for me. Like, I will watch the compilation of like the funniest hacks clips. It's so funny. It is so funny.

SPEAKER_04

So let's go to, I want you to go to, because we have to discuss this, best. This is gonna be a really this is gonna be a really long segment. I don't care. I know.

SPEAKER_05

Um, best guest role actress. This is really important. This is really important. I saw this in your notes. I will say the thing about hacks that made it, I feel like made it so fucking funny, was this like circus act of characters. Right. These funny ass side characters.

SPEAKER_04

It is what made it one of the best seasons since season two. Yes. Because they made it an ensemble, which is where it shines.

SPEAKER_05

That's where it shines, yes.

SPEAKER_04

Um, I will say this right now it's weed, it's Lori Metcalf, it's that monologue.

SPEAKER_01

I woke up flat on my back in a bed, not a chair, in a motel in Juarez. My hair was in cornrows. My eyebrows had been burned off, and I was holding an Apple TV remote, but all the room had was a Roku. What is that?

SPEAKER_04

So funny. It was so fucking funny, and that's what I wanted to do. And just bringing weed back.

SPEAKER_05

Bringing weed back in that moment.

SPEAKER_04

Had to bring weed back.

SPEAKER_05

Like you had to bring weed back. It was so unexpected.

SPEAKER_04

But did you see the mayor's nominated too?

SPEAKER_05

I did, and I fucking love the mayor.

SPEAKER_04

She would love Caitlyn Olson to be recognized for DJ for Dark.

SPEAKER_05

But like, is she would we call her so weird?

SPEAKER_04

She was a Betty Gilpin episode of Widow's Bayette. No. Okay, it's a bottle episode.

SPEAKER_05

Because I was gonna say, I don't know who that is yet. I think we're only four in. Fucking rules. I think it's literally the next episode. Okay. Okay. Um Leslie Bibb was also hilarious.

SPEAKER_04

It was so haunting in that.

SPEAKER_05

She's also having a moment with her white lotus and then with her in hacks. I will so funny.

SPEAKER_04

If Jamie Lee Curtis wins for chewing the fucking scenery again in the bear, I'm gonna burn this place to the ground.

SPEAKER_05

I'm so I can say this.

SPEAKER_04

She's uh about to be overexposed.

SPEAKER_05

I do agree with that. I agree with that. Cherry Jones was also nominated for Hacks. I love her every time. Excellent.

SPEAKER_04

Every time I see her on my like this like gorgeous aging lesbian, I love her every time.

SPEAKER_05

God, she looks good. She looks so good. I love her. Ugh. Yeah. So anyway, we are definitely rooted in the screen.

SPEAKER_04

This is really our category. Like I totally agree. Okay, moving forward, I think we should then switch to guest in a drama because I have no skin in this game. Actor or actress. Let's go act. Oh, maybe start with actor. Okay. Basically, it's pit, pit, pit, pit, pit, pit, pit.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my gosh. This is really exciting. Okay. Yeah. So the girl one is more pit. Glad Ernest Harden Jr. for the pit. I just legitimately got chills. Because his I mean, oh, but Coleman. Okay, so I love Coleman Domingo. I did not watch Euphoria. If Euphoria wins anything, I'm burning it the fuck out.

SPEAKER_04

So Coleman Domingo is also nominated for four seasons. Good. Because he's so fucking clean and good in that. He carries that show.

SPEAKER_05

He carries that show. I watch it for him. Yeah. I love him. He does. Oh my God. So good. So Jeff Coburn in the Pit, also good. Okay, this is just like, he's amazing in it. I could totally see him winning for this. I he annoys me. I don't know why. Like his shtick annoys me. Jeff Cobra. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I mean, he's the same thing in everything. He's the same thing in everything.

SPEAKER_04

We are character actor fans in this house. Like, I love the character. Obviously, we stand Jeff Hiller.

SPEAKER_05

Jeff Hiller is also so oh, but for Pluribus.

SPEAKER_04

He won.

SPEAKER_05

Did you watch Pluribus? No.

SPEAKER_04

I feel like I should.

SPEAKER_05

I know. Goldsmiths watched it and they really liked it. Okay. That's another Apple TV.

SPEAKER_04

What do we say? Pleurus? Plurbus?

SPEAKER_05

Pluribus.

SPEAKER_04

And then you're gonna start watching The Diplomat.

SPEAKER_05

And beef. I started watching The Diplomat. I have got not gotten to Bradley Whitford in it yet, but I fucking love him.

SPEAKER_04

I love him. And I don't He's good in everything. I don't need Jeff Hiller to win. I just want him to be at the table. So I'm happy with this. I agree.

SPEAKER_05

I would not be surprised if Ernest Harden Jr. wins for The Pit. I don't even know what Slow Horses is.

SPEAKER_04

It's like a spy novel, but he like burps and farts the whole time. Ooh, no.

SPEAKER_05

No thanks. Okay, supporting actress for a drama series. Let's take a look. Oh, this is also the pit. Very the pit heavy. So Catherine Lanassa won this last year, I want to say. And then she was completely snubbed at the Golden Globes. Weird. She is excellent. Wouldn't be surprised if she carries it again. Or I could also see gosh, this is tough. Oh, I haven't gotten to Alison Janny in um The Diplomat yet. So I could also see, oh, I do not know how to pronounce her name. I'm gonna try Sapita Moafe for the pit. So she was excellent. Excellent. This is supporting actress drama. Yeah. So solid category here, but yeah, there are four actresses from the pit nominated.

SPEAKER_04

Do you think it's gonna be Nepo Baby, Taylor Dion?

SPEAKER_05

I feel like she was really a part of the Walter White's daughter.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I thought she was really a part of the conversation.

SPEAKER_05

She was good in this season, but I feel like Sebita was more of an outstanding I think for her role and like what she was dealing with in this. I feel like Taylor Dion was better in season one, personally.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

And I do feel like that for Katherine Lanasa and then Fiona Dereef, who um plays Dr. McKay, I also feel like they were better in season one. Okay. And I don't think it was their acting, I think it was just like the story. Yeah, the rate given. Yeah, yeah. But I do feel like I feel like I'm pronouncing this wrong Cepede. Like she was so good. Okay, I love it. So we'll see. Um, okay. Any other categories? Should we just talk about drama series in general? Yeah. So The Pit is obviously gonna be in there. The Gilded Age.

SPEAKER_04

Gilded Age had a hot season. God, it was the best season. Gilded Age is something that I believe and you rarely ever see this. I think I've said this on the podcast before, but we're getting to that point. It's the 26th episode, everybody. We're gonna start repeating ourselves. Um, I haven't seen a show progressively get better with each season. I am always a person who's always like the first season was the best. For sure. Um, Gilded Age just keeps getting better. I know. Just keeps getting more interesting, just keeps getting more like the acting is better, the plot lines are better, and this was the best season yet.

SPEAKER_05

It's so good. Like, so fucking good. I'm really excited for what season four or season five?

SPEAKER_04

It's gonna be season four.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, and that's coming like fall. Yeah. Yes, we're getting fucking weight. I know we're already getting like sneak peeks and drops. Uh yeah, no. Julian Fellows. He's the best.

SPEAKER_04

A bit like a cliffhanger, like joy. Big ass cliffhanger. Walked the fuck out. Is this because of the shooting?

SPEAKER_00

Maybe. It's made me examine my life. And I don't like everything I see.

SPEAKER_05

We're staring down the barrel of a gun of a laudanum addiction with him, which is like basically like think about that. Yes, they zoomed in because he like got shot, which by the way, he never would have survived that back in the day.

SPEAKER_04

And so they read.

SPEAKER_06

Robert Barrett.

SPEAKER_04

If we are going to Tommy Boy, boner of the month, he would train daddy would be train daddy on the calendar most months for me.

SPEAKER_00

No offense, but if I sent a picture of your mom to some of my buddies at school, she'd definitely be boner of the month. I'm honored.

SPEAKER_05

I just love like their TikTok presence is so fucking funny. Like Train Daddy, Opera Mommy, Clock Twink, Young Russell. I know them all. I'm fucking upset.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna do episode by episode. We are definitely gonna be like when it comes back not.

SPEAKER_05

Don't just watch stupid ass Bravo shows, you guys. Listen to us.

SPEAKER_04

We are talking about Emmy. We're gonna blow your mind when we bring our Game of Thrones knowledge in the segment coming up.

SPEAKER_05

Dakaris. Um, Matt loved Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I couldn't do it. Um why couldn't you do it? I just like didn't care. Okay. I just like wasn't invested in it.

SPEAKER_04

I am like so, we'll again talk about this.

SPEAKER_05

We love it.

SPEAKER_04

No, I haven't watched it either because I was like, I don't care. I'm not in it. But now I'm so in. This is what House of the Dragons that I'm like. Well, maybe I'll start watching it.

SPEAKER_05

So he Matt watched it twice. Like he listened to a podcast about it and then rewatched it. Okay, we have to start with it. Such a nerve. We'd have to start with it. Jake would love it. Um, okay, so the pit was nominated Pluribus, Paradise, uh, Slow Horses, Your Friends and Neighbor. I don't even know what Paradise is. Me either. It's on Hulu, which is why I don't know because I like don't like Hulu. Um, and The Diplomat, which I just started watching.

SPEAKER_04

I have heard your friends and neighbors uh from my father-in-law, but my father-in-law watches a shit ton of television. Shout out Al. Um, and he said something where it's like it could have been a movie. Like it's a lot of filler, it's not that good. Yeah. I think Apple was just basically like, we will be included in every single I mean, good for them.

SPEAKER_05

They want to be in the mix.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

I think we should go to into reality at this point.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. So I do want to talk about the best host because what are you gonna do? I don't know. This is really hard for me. So Ariana Maddox was nominated for Love Island, Alan Cumming was nominated for the Traders, Kristen Kish was nominated for Top Chef. I am not a top chef watcher. I love her from Traders, though. I love her from the show. She's such a chic ass queen. Um I I think I'm gonna have to root for Alan Cumming.

SPEAKER_01

You gender!

SPEAKER_00

Hey, come away, guys!

SPEAKER_04

Really? Yeah, okay. So this is where I am always. Is about are is someone going to have the chance to win another award? And Alan Cumming, I guarantee he is flush with a okay.

SPEAKER_05

So then if if that were the case, then I would go R anime Aryan.

SPEAKER_04

She's never gonna never win another award.

SPEAKER_05

And she really has revolutionized Love Island USA. Like she really has, and she is like such a fun part of that show.

SPEAKER_04

Like, even though I have not watched a single episode, it is great to see her.

SPEAKER_05

Like if she wins an Emmy, that's insane. Like I would love to see her win an Emmy.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. I would love to see her win an Emmy because like I just think I love a good reality show to legit, yeah, legit performer pipeline. I just love it. Yeah, totally. So that's where I'm at.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. I love that. You have swayed me.

SPEAKER_04

Um, and then oh, we got a summer house. Do you know Summerhouse?

SPEAKER_05

Structured reality program, unstructured reality program. Unstructured reality program. Oh, structured would be like top chef. Yeah. Okay. Um America's Sweethearts, Dallas Cowboys. They don't even have a fucking thumbnail picture up here. Get your shit together, Emmys. What is going on?

SPEAKER_04

Um, that's tough because uh we will we will be talking about that later in the show.

SPEAKER_05

No, Summer House deserves it for what they did this season. This season was in fucking zane. Summerhouse totally deserves it. It was so for these, they don't they give these awards like out of the show, right? Because they like are announcing awards all day. Yeah. Like the Summer House cast isn't gonna be at the No, they'll be at like the lunch. Yeah, they do like a lunch and they give like a lot of the like more inconsequential awards. They save like the big, big categories for the actual like dinner.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but sometimes they do have reality show.

SPEAKER_05

I don't have to see. I mean, it's becoming more in the conversation.

SPEAKER_04

Like reality competition has always been Yes, like Survivor. Yeah, Taylor Swift is nominated for some.

SPEAKER_05

I did see that she's nominated for the colour. But those are all in the like like lunch, lunch. Yeah, but she's working, baby. She's gonna get that egot if it fucking kills her. I just wonder if she'll show up. Because if she shows up, people are gonna pay attention. If she shows up, she's getting the award. You know what I mean? She's not gonna show up if she's not getting the award. What is she nominated for?

SPEAKER_04

Uh, best direction of like a recorded concert thing. Oh, it was for eras.

SPEAKER_05

That's right. Okay. I mean, that's a smart nomination. Like that makes sense. She deserves it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, she broke our brains.

SPEAKER_05

I know. Literally.

SPEAKER_04

But I think we've been talking about this for 24 minutes.

SPEAKER_05

Anything else we need to cover? I don't think so. I think we covered all the main stuff. And we will continue talking about it. Yes. And then obviously, when does this air? Oh, September 14th. Yeah. So that kicks off awards season. Maybe we'll do like our like, oh, we'll do a guest ballot because we really know what we're talking about. Oh, we should do a guest ballot. That would be really fun. We could also do who we think is gonna win and who we want to win if there's a differentiation.

SPEAKER_04

We'll also do best campaigning.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, that's a great idea. Oh my god, I love that so much.

SPEAKER_04

The Harvey Weinstein Award for darkest campaign strategy.

SPEAKER_05

And the best blonde to pull off a red dress. If you don't know what that means, you should look it up. Okay. What do we need to get into next?

SPEAKER_04

So we can get into America Sweethearts.

SPEAKER_05

This is gonna be a very TV heavy like talking about TV shows that we've been watching. Because that is like all I've been doing. I mean, it's summer, baby. I know, I love it. The content has been flowing.

SPEAKER_04

I have been in pajamas.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

24 out of the 48 hours. 100%. Like I try to get my son to get out of pajamas and he's like, I don't think I'm going to do that.

SPEAKER_05

When my son, when we come home from anything, he immediately changes in the pajamas. I'm not kidding. Like, and I respect it. I'm like, well, monkey see, monkey do.

SPEAKER_04

Uh so anyway, America Sweethearts, it premiered last month, so we are behind. We did watch it immediately after it dropped, but then we just forgot to talk about it. Yeah, there was just a lot going on. Well, all the pajamas.

DCC America’s Sweethearts

SPEAKER_04

Um, I loved it. You can what is it? Greg Whitley? Is that the um the creator? Yeah, who did cheer. Of course he did.

SPEAKER_05

I will watch anything he does. It's just he just produces really good shit. Oh my god. Like it's cheer was so good. I mean, it got obviously there's a good reason it's never coming back because it's like dark as fuck. Yeah. But like it was so good. It was like a cultural phenomenon. Yes, for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Um, but yeah, no, I thought it was so great. It's as good as the last seasons.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, it definitely I was worried going into this season. I was like curious what they were gonna do because it this was the so this was the first season that they did tryouts with the show, which was because of the lag in like the like production. So the lag is almost a full year. That's wild. I guess I didn't even realize that.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, and it really proves like how much he records and how much it takes for him to string together a narrative. Yes. Um, so and I guess I probably do it to amp up the the seat the start of the season too. They shelf it.

SPEAKER_05

Like timing for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Um, so yeah, this is the first because of the lag, this was the first time the show was recorded after the success of the show.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. So basically, this was like we're getting girls trying out for this because of the show.

SPEAKER_04

Like literally girls from New Zealand.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Um, who want to try out for the Dallas. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

But she was she was recruited too.

SPEAKER_04

So right I forgot she was recruited.

SPEAKER_05

So, like, that was an interesting like thing that they mentioned that I don't know if was mentioned in prior seasons that like they have a team that like goes and recruits dancers. Fascinating. So this was interesting to me because they there was talk about like Faith was recruited, but then they also like have this like underlying their like this like tension of like we want people here for the right reasons, and we don't want them to have this like social, like we don't want their social media presence. I mean, clearly there's some. And they are recruiting people, like Faith is because of her social media presence. I totally forgot about that.

SPEAKER_04

And they really put faith through the ringer again.

SPEAKER_05

Kelly was a bitch to Faith.

SPEAKER_04

There is a narrative he wants to, he the the the creator wants to tell. And it is Kelly and Judy are like, and Kelly, if you guys don't know, Kelly and Judy are the coach the coach and the head choreographer. They have been um they were cheerleaders, yeah, yeah. And they have been Dallas Cowboy cheerleader coaches for like 25 years. Yeah, they are in the fabric of the cowboys organization. Correct, and they are just characters. Like, imagine if you watch hacks, it is Deborah Vance, like in real life. Like in real life. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Um I know that bitches we're gonna top her.

SPEAKER_04

We that is not all her natural hair. Um, 100%. And we you definitely don't know like if they are supervillains or divas, and maybe they're a little bit of both. I love them. They're such a great character study in like boomer women. Um, anyway, so this narrative they're saying is like Kelly and Judy are kind of overwhelmed with like the modern, everyday Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. Because like back in the day, they were like nurses and dental hygienists, and they would work 40 hours a week and then be a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and make $12 an hour. And uh maybe, maybe wasn't even that much. Probably not. Um, but now these girls are like professional dancers and like make millions of dollars, potentially like probably make more money on their TikToks, on their Instagrams than Kelly and Duty do. Yeah. Um, so there's like this power dynamic that's shifting, and also it's very much like I would say misogynistic because they're uncomfortable with girls like owning their own image and owning their own sexuality. Anyway, Flexi Faith was one of those people. Yeah. She was recruited, so she had this presence anyway. And throughout this series, she gets shit on because she's doing things that a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader would not do, and interviews that she would not do, and and photo shoots she would not do.

SPEAKER_05

So there was this one scene where they like pulled her aside during training camp and they were upset with an image circulating online that somebody had zoomed in on her crotch. Like it wasn't even something she put out there, it was like her dancing and someone being like nefarious. And then they like came at her and she was like, What's so upsetting to me about that is like that was just like a shot that they zoomed in on. And there's never any like, oh my god, that's terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you. They're just like, you need to control this. And then at like the towards the tail end of the season where they do like uniform try-in turn-in, and they say, like, that's like this big moment where they like have this conversation with Kelly and Judy. It's one on two, and they say whether or not they're gonna try out the next year, and it's like very emotional, it's a huge deal. And so Faith comes in, it's after like the break, right? There's like a break, so they're seeing them again, and Kelly is fucking gunning for her, and she is mad because when Faith went home, she was doing all of these um press interviews with like Good Morning New Zealand or like bigger press outlets.

SPEAKER_03

We were surprised at the amount of interviews that you were just doing solo.

SPEAKER_02

Oh interesting, because my management said that he had been in contact with them and told them everything that I was doing. So I'm so sorry about that. If I had known that that was the case, I guess there was a bit of miscommunication between you and the other. Yes, ma'am, and make sure that I'm in link of every single contact and you guys knowing what's going on as well. And I can definitely take that feedback on board and do that in the future.

SPEAKER_03

When that happened, I was like, okay, if we're auditioning tomorrow, Faith gets my no-boat. Yes, ma'am.

SPEAKER_05

And Kelly was so pissed off because she was like, I can't believe like you were doing this without clearance. And Faith was like, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. Like, it was my understanding, like, my team cleared this with Cowboys, like PR. And so for me, I was like, oh, they probably did clear it. They just Kelly and Judy didn't know. And then they were pissed that they weren't in the know. And Kelly, it was very much like, I'm gonna smack you back down to your place. Because Kelly was like, you need to be on top of it.

SPEAKER_04

She was like, if I had to decide right now whether you were I you were gonna be on the team next year, I would have said no. I know it was so evil. Hilarious because like uh Faith like brings them this like candy. Oh my god, the Tim Tams. The Tim Tams. And she is funny, I've never seen Kelly eat that much before. You know that she probably did not eat anything other than diet coke ice for like two weeks after that. Like she is chomping down on this fucking candy.

SPEAKER_05

She's like chomping and chewing and talking about how she's like, faith would be a no for me. I'm like, put the Tim Tam down.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, take a drink. And it was very much like, cause did did any of these girls like five years ago have teams? Like, did they have I mean I'm sorry? No.

SPEAKER_05

She was so mad when when Faith said my team reached out. She was so fucking mad about it.

SPEAKER_04

She's like, oh my god, okay, I'm sorry. Yes, okay, yes, ma'am, yes, ma'am.

SPEAKER_05

Like she's Oh, it's like you better say yes, ma'am, to me, but not too quick.

SPEAKER_04

They literally said that to her.

SPEAKER_05

They're so see, this is where I'm like very evil agree.

SPEAKER_04

Which they she is, they are evil. I've never said they're not evil.

SPEAKER_05

But you love them.

SPEAKER_04

I just think it it takes all kinds to be entertained.

SPEAKER_05

It takes all kinds of- I'm not, yeah, they're entertaining for sure.

SPEAKER_04

And I just want to, yeah, like I'm it I'm an anthropologist in every show.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I I watch the show. I'm obviously I love the show. Like I just am like, these women are horrifying. They also like, it's just so in the the main storyline of the season two was that the women were banding together to get more money to finally make what they deserve so that they don't have to be working nine to fives, which we all know aren't really nine to fives, much longer than that, and then going and busting their asses at you know, practice every single night, going to games, traveling for games. Um, and Kelly and Judy were like not for it. They were not supportive of the women making more money, like making what they deserve. And so I think for me that was like the heel turn where I was just like, no.

SPEAKER_04

They definitely didn't like okay, at least again to the narrative of the show. They may the the editing was like we're not doing anything to stop it. There's nothing we can do for you to stop it. We're not deterring you, but we're not gonna do anything about it.

SPEAKER_05

It was very we're not gonna go to bat for these women, they weren't gonna like be a part of that. They are like drinking Charlotte Jones' fucking urine and like god, like oh my god, drinking bathwater is so spooky. Um, but how'd that happen?

SPEAKER_04

I'll add the clip.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_06

Not that happened.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh. If you watch the show, you know what we're talking about. Um, but I just remember like someone was saying like to Kelly, like and Judy, like we have to we work so hard and so long and we're exhausted. And Kelly's like, but that's what makes y'all so impressive. It but it is also very much this attitude of like this is what we had to do, so this is what you have to do.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, it is 101, we struggled, so you have to struggle.

SPEAKER_05

100%, 100%.

SPEAKER_04

Um, and it's also just like why, like, why? I so uh shout out Judd, our correspondent. They started watching this uh like two weeks ago, and it was very much like Judd is a Dallas Cowboy football fan. Yeah. So it's very much this like, why do this is this is interesting, but this is not important. And I just like don't agree with that. I feel like aren't the cowboys like bad? I think they're like have been like really bad for like 20 years. Again, I am not a football girly, obviously. I'm so mad right now, but like let's not get and it is stupid, but so is football.

SPEAKER_05

Like, are we seriously comparing women? Yeah, no, I'm not like at least they're just having to get like hip replacement and not like but they don't have CTE, they don't have early onset dementia from tackling other boys, and they just have to get their hips replaced from all those kick spots. Oh my god, they need to stop doing the jump sweat, like it's crazy. Um, I loved Klein. She was like one of our main like like cheerleader protagonists. I loved Klein, but Klein was another one where like I also just like Kelly and Judy, they want to get their licks in. They want to get their pound of flesh. And like they brought Klein in on a one-on-one beginning of the season and basically like wouldn't stop roasting her until she started crying. Like she had to leave the room. I mean, it was intense. It was basically like nobody likes you. And from being you're on your phone too much in the locker room filming for social media.

SPEAKER_04

Did didn't she end up becoming a leader? So it's like, how even true was that?

SPEAKER_05

Right. She was a group leader, so it was great. It was like, oh, well, all of the surveys said that like you weren't here for the team. Like, and I just wonder how true that was.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I wonder too, because they don't like her because she's sassy and because she's like, guess what, guys? This isn't that big of a deal. Yeah. Um and she makes money on social media, yeah. And she is like, she is everything that makes Judy and Kelly scared and uncomfortable. Yeah. Um, I loved her. I loved like when she didn't return, she like was FaceTiming from like a fucking yacht. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So fucking mad. With her hair still wet. They were so mad that she did that. Like these women are addicted to this fucked up power dynamic that they have. Like, and they could not that she didn't show up. Like, they were like, oh, she's on a cruise that she booked before this was scheduled, supposedly. Like they were so mad. And for me, I'm like, okay, no, pop the fuck off, baby. I hope you are cruising around the Virgin Islands having the best fucking time.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, fun thing you're a star.

SPEAKER_05

She's also gonna have to get her hips replaced three weeks after that.

SPEAKER_04

You're a star. Don't let anyone ever change you. I love your nerdy ass parents. Oh my god, doing their karate. That was so good. I loved it. Love when hot people come from nerds. I love it. Oh, yeah. Or like the party cloth dynamic.

SPEAKER_05

And totally, and she like didn't stop them from doing their karate on camera.

SPEAKER_04

She was like, do more karate, mom and dad.

SPEAKER_05

No, she was like off to the side, like smiling. It was so sweet. I loved it. I loved it. Oh my gosh. But yeah, you and you have in the notes. Poor Savannah, totally agree. She did make it this year. Thank God. I was worried. So did Emo Lee. Like she also made it. I loved her so much.

SPEAKER_04

And her and what I love about this show, and cheer is the same way. I feel like since the dawn of time, we get these narratives, mostly written by men, that like it's uh it's going to be like dog eat dog, cat eat cat. Yeah. In these, in these dynamics where you like bring it on. Like, you're not, you're you're not you can't sit with us. Yes. And it's not. It's like camaraderie and friendship and people lifting each other up, and like when someone's doing a shitty job, it's very much like, what can we do? Yes. And that is a structure that Judy and Kelly have created. You have to admit, like, nothing brings people together like a common enemy.

SPEAKER_05

And I do like that's true. It was so funny though when they were talking about like feedback they got from the girls, and they were like, uh one of the things one of the things that the girls really said that they like was positive feedback. You should have heard like what? They were like, oh, so we have to like we have to like give them more compliments.

SPEAKER_04

I so at one point it was like they were out to dinner and they're like, because we really do love y'all. We really love y'all. And like one of the girls probably claim was like, You should tell them that. Yeah. And it was like, and then throughout the season, them trying to be like, and we love you.

SPEAKER_05

It was really too like Kelly. She was like, Well, I I do I I do love, I do love you. Like it was, she was that woman is so shut down. Holy shit, it's so good.

SPEAKER_04

It's such good television.

SPEAKER_05

Another main storyline, like kind of at the beginning, was um, oh my god, what's her name? The daughter of the woman who works for I don't remember her name. It's like with a D or something. Dayton. Dayton comes back, she gets to the solo portion of the tryouts, and she does not get voted to training camp, which like thank God. I'm glad they didn't send her to training camp to know that they were gonna cut her because that's what they did last year. They knew she wasn't gonna make it. No, but her mom was sobbing. Sobbing. It's also just like this is where it's like I'm so Midwest. Like this dance life is very southern. Like, I in the way, and also this like cowboys culture, like is something I didn't even realize it was that big of a deal to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader until the show came out. Not even a little bit. Like, I know about the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, like I know about like Hooter's waitresses. I mean, you know what I mean? Because it would they're in the same. Yes. Yeah, but I didn't realize what what it was. So it was great. If you haven't watched any of it, I would recommend. Like it's fascinating.

SPEAKER_04

It's so good. And you don't even like, it's not like dance moms, like it really is a fabulous look at something that takes a lot of hard work. Yes, I would say. Yes. Um, all right. Should we should

Harry and Megan Updates

SPEAKER_04

we jump from one TV show to the next or should we talk about Harry and Megan? Let's talk about Harry and Megan. So again, I have to eat my croc because we talked about this a couple weeks ago.

SPEAKER_05

She heard our she heard this episode.

SPEAKER_04

Megan the flight to Heathrow with love Megan, with love Midwest besties. She listened to the pod and she was like, you know what? I am gonna go, actually.

SPEAKER_05

Um, so Megan and the kids ended up going to England with Harry.

SPEAKER_04

He had reported that Harry was going to go to the UK for, and I didn't realize the reason it's like he's doing Invictus Game stuff, which is like I did not realize he was doing Invictus game stuff. Harry's big thing is that he created this like basically it's like Special Olympics. It's for like wounded soldiers um to compete in games. It's really cool. It's really it really is. It's a it's a good legacy for him. A hundred percent. Um, it's his like big, it's like his big headline thing. Yeah. Um and we instantly started getting leaks, probably from Harry's camp, that they're like he wanted to stay in Buckingham Palace because remember, he like doesn't have a residence anymore. Right. Um and he's very concerned about security. And then like, was Megan gonna go? Was she not gonna go? I was like, she's not gonna fucking go. I didn't realize it had been that long since Charles had seen the kids.

SPEAKER_05

How long had it been? Four years. Like so had he even met Lily?

SPEAKER_04

I know it must have been she was a baby because she's not that old, is she?

SPEAKER_05

No, she's not that old. She can't be because she had her after the pandemic, right? Wasn't she like pregnant with her?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, yeah during the pandemic.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, so so Harry was there, so for the Invictus game. So normally at all of his Invictus game game, like opening stuff, because they do like kind of similar to the Olympics, like Megan comes as well. Yes, and it's like big fashion moments from her. She did not do anything there. Wow. And like there, I'm gonna sound like such a bitch, but I'm just like Is security that big of an issue? Like, you can't hire out security for this. Like, I don't know why you can't hire private security. Like, what? But I'm also just like, they're so cash poor.

SPEAKER_04

You would think you could like like anything else with celebrities. It's like, can't you hire out a company and then the company can say that they do security for you and then you get it for free or whatever. I don't know. Um, it's a big deal. He talks about it all the time.

SPEAKER_05

All the time.

SPEAKER_04

But we're also talking about someone who's like parent was killed by the paparazzi.

SPEAKER_05

He's just like, he's just like fucking scared. He's just scared. I know. It is really sad. Um, but yeah, that was a pretty big deal.

SPEAKER_04

Uh so they met, there are no pictures. They met in high grove. There was a really there was an AI one that man for like two seconds. I'm like, I almost got you.

SPEAKER_05

High Grove is Charles' like country residence. That's like his home.

SPEAKER_04

I wonder where they like stayed, like the High Grove Marriott.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god, where did they stay? Because they weren't staying anywhere else. No. I mean, do they still have their cotswolds?

SPEAKER_04

I have no idea.

SPEAKER_05

Summer house or whatever. I'm curious about that. It wouldn't be too far from High Grove, I don't think. No, huh? I don't know, but I do think it's funny that she was like, I'll go, but you're not getting a single fucking picture. No, I'm not going to the Invictus games. You're not gonna see, you will not even know. It's just really unlike her, right? Yes, but I also just feel like with England, she doesn't, she's like, I don't fuck with you.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, that is pretty powerful. I know. That makes me like her.

SPEAKER_05

I know.

SPEAKER_04

Um there it was also very much said and leaked that they did not meet with William and Kate.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, that was a big deal. Like that relationship is fractured beyond repair. Baby brain. Yeah. Oh my god. Don't talk about my whole moons.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, Kate would hate me. Uh no, obviously. I mean, and probably compliment. All right. Speaking of royalty, House of the Dragon. Oh my

House of the Dragon

SPEAKER_04

god.

SPEAKER_05

It's just so funny because like I wasn't, I was behind because of my rigorous Love Island schedule. Oh my god. And then I finished Love Island and I I'll get into this, but I was like grateful to be done with it. And then immediately was like, okay, Matt, like we can watch House of the Dragon. And I was kind of like, meh, like shifting from something like Love Island into House of the Dragon, two different galaxies. Yes, a different part of the brain, different part of the brain. And I was kind of like, meh, okay. But of course, it's like this is what House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones universe just fucking pulls, sucks you back in. And I am so locked in. Amped. So locked in every Sunday. It's so fun. I'm like, we get to watch House of the Dragon tonight. Like, I love having appointment television. Yes. Really exciting for me. Television you can watch like as a family.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um, like with your kids, but like with your spouse. I I love that. Yes. Um, yeah, I think it's so great. It started a little weird. Okay, so I didn't know this, but my husband told me. Like it was supposed season two was supposed to have 10 episodes, and then HBO was randomly like, no, you only have eight.

SPEAKER_05

So interesting that they didn't let them have a 10 episode run.

SPEAKER_04

Crazy. Like, it's what what are we doing here?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So I liked how they did this where they didn't try to squeeze in their storyline. They're like, okay, well, fuck you. The first two episodes of season three are going to be how we plan to finish out season two. Yeah. Which I really liked. Um, and then season episode three definitely was like a new season. Yeah. And that new season is, I would say, like the slowing down, like the battles. There's still battles, but it's not like quite like we're settling, it's more like Palace Intrigue again, like season one. Yes. And I'm obsessed. Courtiers, courtiers.

SPEAKER_05

It's like it's the politics. Yes. Which is so much. Like, and it's okay. So, because I shared this to our Instagram, like, people were like, This episode was so boring. Like, my past episode was so boring. And it's like, do you not know? Like, this show is called Game of Thrones. It's not all fucking dragon battles or battles in general. Like, and even like the original Game of Thrones, like it took so many seasons to even get to a battle. Like, what are you talking about? Remember, like, when we did finally get to all battles, it fucking sucks.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god, so maybe you battle someone a little slowdown.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. And it's like building plot, driving plot. Like, not every episode can be this like big and insane explosion.

SPEAKER_04

Dragons eating dragons. Like, it's just like I don't want it. I want, I I feel that House of Dragon, like, you can tell there's a female showrunner. Yeah. And you can tell there's female writers.

SPEAKER_05

Well, there's so much less rape. That's how you know there's so much less rape.

SPEAKER_04

There's not not rape.

SPEAKER_05

Let's not go crazy. Oh, but it's not like Game of Thrones, where it was like that was the subplot of the entire series. What is the rape? What is the rape plot today? How much rape can we get away with before they fuck up our TV rating? That was the whole premise of it.

SPEAKER_04

Um, so I just I am really enjoying like from a female standpoint, like the ep the the boring episode was of course like Rhaenyra trying to like get a grasp on her kingdom because now she has like taken the iron throne, but it's like she doesn't have a council because she's like mad at everybody and she's like grieving her son and she and then she like started her period, and I'm like, oh my god, I'm obsessed with this.

SPEAKER_05

Going fucking through it.

SPEAKER_04

She's so mean to Damon. I know it's like girls who's like her uncle, but like I ship those two so hard. I will like read fanfiction about them if I could.

SPEAKER_05

It's just so funny how he only knows Matt Smith, right? He only knows how to play a prince who is fucking pissed that his wife has all the power.

SPEAKER_04

He doesn't he can play more than that.

SPEAKER_05

He's just really good at it. He was also Prince Philip in the crown. I love him. And he was just like so mad that he wasn't the king.

SPEAKER_04

You can't be a millennial nerd, woman, and not be like weirdly sexually awakened by Matt Smith as the doctor. He's so weird looking. Oh my god, I love him. I love his doe face. I love him. His swagger and his doe face. He's perfect. I mean, I do miss his short hair. I know because that wig is the wig is so bad.

SPEAKER_05

The wigs are so bad. The wigs are so bad. Like Rainer's is the best.

SPEAKER_04

But as we know, it's great acting, great writing, so the wigs are bad. Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_05

Bad wigs, though.

SPEAKER_04

The Midwest best.

SPEAKER_05

Because Eamon's wig will take it's so bad.

SPEAKER_04

Eamon's wig literally the worst. Someone said that Eamon's wig literally was the same wig that Millie Alcott wore in season one.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we know. Like we can tell. It's so bad.

SPEAKER_04

Better wig budget.

SPEAKER_05

Helena's wig isn't too bad.

SPEAKER_04

Helena's wig is not tiny.

SPEAKER_05

They're all bad, but like on the spectrum of bad.

SPEAKER_04

And like, why is Alison? Why is that actress wearing a wig this season? It looks bad.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

Like, what is going on with her look?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, she's downtrodden. She is not. Our girl is down bad. Daddy got decapitated.

SPEAKER_04

It's also just like you should be dead and you're complaining you're staying in the penthouse suite at the fourth season.

SPEAKER_05

Why is she trying to escape so bad? It's like just chill at King's Landing.

SPEAKER_04

We're on the fourth episode, fifth episode.

SPEAKER_05

I think we're on the fourth episode.

SPEAKER_04

I'm calling him High Tower Hunty because I don't know his name. Like the mean guy. Orment?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I fucking love him. I love him. Okay, so he's such a good baddie. Like he is. He was also sniffing those poppers. Oh, when he was, I was like, what is he doing? I love it. I was so excited to like figure that out. Um he is so unhinged and deranged. So he is also like known in like, okay, so he was in Little Women, Greta Gerwig's version. Ooh. He was the poor teacher that Meg marries. Because he's like tutor. He is so cute. And he's really good in Little Women, but he's also like a notorious kind of bad guy, like villain in like British television. Like he was a really, really bad guy in like Happy Valley. Okay. Which is like a very dark show. So when I saw him come on the screen, ooh, jump scared. I was like, this is not gonna be good, but it's gonna be good. Like because I didn't know that because he does have a little baby face, so I wasn't sure if he was gonna be bad. I think he just did a cover. I can't not a cover, but like he did an article where he was like, I'd rather be bad, and it's like all about how he just like has fun playing, and I'm like, fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I am so mad at this plot line for thing because it's like I have like Damon is right about everything, always correct. Like it's this whole season is just like Rainier being like, no, and him like making the I understand he accidentally killed a kid like last season, and that was unfortunate.

SPEAKER_05

Well, he didn't really, it was like by his command.

SPEAKER_04

Don't get rat catchers to do your fitting. No, that was bad. That was bad. But he's been right about everything else.

SPEAKER_05

It's true.

SPEAKER_04

So it's like he's just like letting just the way that she's like, Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna be on my throne, but I'm not gonna kill anybody who but to try to betray me. I'm gonna like put them up in the four seasons. Oh no, I'm just gonna let them like live happily. What the fuck did you think was going to happen?

SPEAKER_05

I don't like, did you really think you weren't gonna have to kill Otto Hightower? Did you really think you weren't gonna have to kill all of Allison's kids?

SPEAKER_04

You have to kill All of High. You have to kill them, girl. What are we doing here?

SPEAKER_05

You can send him north, but he's gonna come on back south, honey.

SPEAKER_04

And I don't like because I've oh I was always team Renera and they in the way that they like the way that she was like portrayed in like the first season a lot was that she's like this silly girl and she doesn't take anything seriously. And I was like, no, she's not, she's gonna live up to it. But like this season, I'm like, what the fuck are you doing?

SPEAKER_05

I think it's just like this, it is showing that it's a be careful what you wish for. Totally. Where it's like she got the iron throne, it's everything she's wanted, she has wanted, but it's also like at what cost? She's mourning two of her sons. The other son, she's like scared to even see. Yeah, I don't know what that was that like made me sick. Yeah, she has lost her closest friend and confidant in Alicent. Like, she has Damon who's loyal, but like he's also loyal to his own cause.

SPEAKER_04

And I love her like sexy lesbian whisper girl.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But it's like, can we trust her?

SPEAKER_05

No, I don't think so. No, because she was like married to Damon. Like that was weird. I kind of like forgot about that. Like they weren't really married. The remember, yeah, it was like season, it was like season one or two. They were like he went to Dragonstone and he was like, This is my residence now, and just like took Dragonstone with her. And then like that was a whole plot lane with him and Viserys because Viserys like wouldn't.

SPEAKER_04

Do you guys like hearing um someone have to describe to their mom what House of Dragon is like? Because that's what this is gonna be.

SPEAKER_05

Bitchfork. This is House of the Dragon, Bitch Fork edition. Um, okay, let's look at your notes though. Alan and Adam Hole. Who's that? Uh the two the Sea Serpent. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Because that's another thing I like didn't like. So I put this in my notes where like I was really mad at Renera, and I'm like, I don't understand why she's like shunning her bastard brand because it was like the only thing that gave her power in season two. And the sea serpent wanted his two bastard sons because they like fought together to be their his legitimate sons, and she's like, I'm not gonna do that. Fuck you. I know I know, and those guys are brothers in real life.

SPEAKER_05

Oh no way! Oh my gosh, I love them.

SPEAKER_04

I love them. I love that they're like they're like hinting that there might be a relationship between one of them and Bela.

SPEAKER_05

But aren't they siblings? Well, I mean, like Wait, wait, she's his great that's her grandfather. This is like distant relatives in House of Dragons. No, I know. They're such fucking freaks.

SPEAKER_04

It's like you have to put like incest in instead.

SPEAKER_05

Helena is pregnant with Aegon's son, right? As far as I know, yes. That's what I thought too. But I was like, what was it, Amund? And Amund and that freaky ass witch at Heron Hall. He is a good baddie.

SPEAKER_04

As soon as I saw them together, I'm like, oh fuck yeah, I'm ready for this.

SPEAKER_03

Is somebody gonna match my freak? Is somebody gonna match my freak? Is somebody gonna match my nesty? I guess I'm an eye.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, and we do have to talk about Sir Kristen Cole. There's so many good, hateable characters. I fucking hate stupid fucking haircuts. They will sing songs about me. And I like shared it to our story. I'm like, bitch, nobody wants the recipe to your peach cobbler. What are you talking about? Also, are they getting muddy in the face or are they painting their face with mud? Because Matt and I couldn't tell.

SPEAKER_04

I also no, they're definitely doing it, and I was like, why are they doing it?

SPEAKER_05

It's like gorilla warfare.

SPEAKER_04

It's like so dumb because you're like, but we put we put mud on our face now.

SPEAKER_05

We're gonna burn this camp down and then march to the riverlands.

SPEAKER_04

Like, what?

SPEAKER_05

Nobody wants to like I've always been in service of the highborn. Like, no shit, you're a knight.

SPEAKER_04

That was your job.

SPEAKER_05

That's your literal job.

SPEAKER_04

I'm sorry that like someone didn't want to like give up their crown to like sell oranges with you.

SPEAKER_05

Greatest warrior in the land? Like, bitch. Who? Who is saying that? Delusional. Delusional.

SPEAKER_04

We do love a delusional diva, but like get him off my fucking screen.

SPEAKER_05

I do feel so bad for Allison's last kid who's stuck with crazy Ormond. Like who he's like, now you're gonna be the king. And he's like, What? Like, so now we have him. So now we have Reneer on the throne. We have Amond who's like getting his fucking witchcraft on at Heronhall. Is somebody gonna match my nesting? But like he's still going for the throne. And now we have Ormond launching his own campaign. Plus, there's all of this like crazy descent within King's Landing with them like killing the gold cloaks. Hightower Hunty. Yeah, that's Ormond. Yeah. The High Tower Hunty.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

He's doing it because they got that gold coin.

SPEAKER_04

It was also like really creepy, like very like Hannibal.

SPEAKER_05

It was so creepy. Like they're like getting in the way they got in.

SPEAKER_04

Do you are you someone who's going to look up spoilers? Because as we know, like this is all, like we all know what's going on. I mean, in the way we know what's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, so I know I know some things just from my general knowledge and like from Matt, but I don't know everything. So I'm not going to look up spoilers.

SPEAKER_04

I just have to know if anything happens to Damon. Because I will just be because fun thing, it also will affect me watching the show because I watch the show because of Matt Smith. Like a lot of my enjoyment comes from Matt Smith.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, he's so good. He's such a great character. There is like such great moments of like comedy in House of the Dragon. We should be nominated for best comedy. Like it just, it is really a good fucking show. So

Love Island Finale

SPEAKER_05

the finale of Love Island, it was exactly what everybody thought. Bryce and Trinity won, um, which I voted for them. But like I will say the finale episode, the last week just gets so boring because you're like, there's no drama. Everybody's coupled up. We knew it was gonna happen. Um, it was just like it was really funny though, because on the finale episode, they send each couple on a date, and like the two top couples that like everybody loved got like really amazing dates. Like, truly, and then the bottom couples got the shittiest dates. It was so funny. Like the memes about it were hilarious. Um, like literally, one couple they had truly like the amount of florals that they had. It looked like they had a storybook about their story, like a fairy tale. It was so cool. And then this other couple they put on this like fuck ass speedboat and took them to like a swamp and they had like sub sandwiches. Like, it was so bad.

SPEAKER_04

Sounds like a nightmare.

SPEAKER_05

It was so bad. And the other one, they like had a massage table, but no masseuse. So like he had to give her a massage, and then they like thanks for the shitty massage, right? And then they like made pizza, they had to like make their own pizza, get a band. Um, so there is a reunion hosted by Ariana and Andy Cohen. They co-host this, but it's not until August 31st. So and what I'm also learning from On My Love Island baddies is that like a lot of the drama also happens now. Like the season is over, so we get to see these couple couples IRL.

SPEAKER_04

Because it's not like there was like this lapse, like it's now like real time.

SPEAKER_05

They're unleashed into the world. Yes. So they're like back on social media, they're out in the public, so we're getting shots of them like all over the place. And so we get to see what's happening. I love it. But I was glad what like the finale was boring. I fast forwarded through a lot of it, to be honest, and it's over. And I was like, at that point, I was like, I'm glad this is over. This has just been a lot, it's been a huge commitment.

SPEAKER_04

And is it like three months?

SPEAKER_05

Um, two months? It's like two months. There were like, yeah, like 30 something episodes. Oh my god, that's so truly insane. It's so much content. It's so much content. So yeah, so I'm done with that and I can move on with my life. And you started Widow's Bay.

Widow’s Bay

SPEAKER_05

What are your thoughts? I love it. So I started Widow's Bay. I was like basically just told my husband, I was like, we're watching this together. This is a show we will enjoy together. You're watching it no matter what. I love Matthew Reese. Like, I've always loved him since like he was in Brothers and Sisters since like the gay brother. Yeah. Um, and it's just like funny. It's so fucking funny, but it's like spooky, which is it's right up our alley because we are not horror people at all, but it's like just enough that it's like the intrigue is there, but then like the comedy takes like the levity of it is so funny. Like in the first episode when he was like, We have to impress this writer, and Patricia Deposes, and she's like, What are you asking me to do? What are you asking me to do, Tom?

SPEAKER_01

What do you think I'm asking you to do?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I didn't know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, so fucking funny.

SPEAKER_05

And just her line delivery is so funny, so fucking funny. The cast of characters at his office, fucking hysterical. I mean, you can see the Parks and Wreck in it. Totally, totally. And like his son, like, even his son is so fucking funny. Like when he catches him smoking and he's like, What is this?

SPEAKER_04

It's really good.

SPEAKER_05

I love it.

SPEAKER_04

Do you know what this is? Um, good. I'm so happy you liked it. We're really enjoying it. I don't know what I would have done if you were like, yeah, it's fine. Because I'm like, no, it's the greatest television show. We're really enjoying it. Okay, perfect.

SPEAKER_05

It's different. It's also just like it's something different. So we are really enjoying it.

SPEAKER_04

Totally original. Yes. Like, obviously, there are very direct like influences of Stephen King. Yes. But it's just something completely on its own that you can watch.

SPEAKER_05

It just in a world of prequels and sequels and this and that, like this is like in like retellings of everything. Like, this is something totally original, and like we love to see that.

SPEAKER_04

I um really

Ride The Podcast

SPEAKER_04

quickly want to talk about because we've been talking a lot about Mary Beth Barone on this podcast, Ride and Dad. It was so fucking good. Okay, well, I was ignoring it. I was ignoring it because I'm like mad at her. Yeah. Um, and then I was listening to our podcast. Yeah. Uh, and then Spotify immediately started playing. I was like on the road. I was uh and immediately started playing ride. I'm like, I guess I'll just like listen to it. Yeah. I mean, there is no accountability. She is very much like, you guys are mad at me as something for something a man did, and it's like whatever, but it's just Benny is so fucking funny. I cannot his like bit is he is calling it atonement, and it's it's like Barbenheimer, except it's atonement in the Toy Story franchise. Like he's just so fucking stupid, and like the way he is, I know, I know, and the way he is weaving in like he'll tell a story and then he'll be like, that's before the kids try to cancel you. God damn it, I just can't pull you back in. They just can't, once I'm out, they pull me back in.

SPEAKER_05

They're like so funny. And like Benny is really funny.

SPEAKER_04

Like I'm like in love again. Uh, they are perfectly imperfect.

SPEAKER_05

Um, and I mean, we were always gonna watch overcompensating season two. I just can't believe how quickly I was like, okay, I forgive you.

SPEAKER_04

It's too short. Like, they did it just brings me so much joy to hear them giggle. You know what?

SPEAKER_05

In this healthcare, you just can't put a price on that.

SPEAKER_04

Well, the kids trying to cancel you. Kids trying to cancel mommy.

SPEAKER_05

A toymment. Um, okay.

Five Star Weekend and Four Seasons

SPEAKER_05

I did start and already finish because I'm a loser. Five star weekend. Did you start it yet? Yeah, I'm halfway through. Oh, how are you feeling?

SPEAKER_04

So the first two episodes, I was like, I don't, this is stupid.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Um, and then it really started to come. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So it's a book um called The Five Star Weekend by Ellen Hildebrand. Yes. And for people who don't know, she is like Nan Tucket's reigning literary queen. She has an entire series of books. We're talking like it's like 30 books that are like the Nan Tucket series.

SPEAKER_04

She's very much like rich white ladies like wrapped in cashmere drinking white wine.

SPEAKER_05

Totally. I love it. And throughout these books, it is Nantucket as a character. Yes. So it is just like such delicious summer reading. Um, I feel like it's a great adaptation. Like, and you know me, I like can totally separate the two, but I'm like, this is really solid.

SPEAKER_04

So the things that because there's so much television now, like you learn to appreciate budget. Yeah. You learn to appreciate lighting.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You learn to appreciate uh set design because you just don't get that sometimes. You just don't.

SPEAKER_05

At that. Um, and off campus.

SPEAKER_04

Acting is insane. Jennifer Gardner can like, she's perfect. She's insane.

SPEAKER_05

She's never been more Jennifer Garner than in this role. She's literally just her. It's perfect for her. Um, and Chloe Sevignier is so good. I love her so much.

SPEAKER_04

She's so weirdly beautiful. I don't know. She's ethereal. Oh my god. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but yeah, it's like it, it's, you know, it's silly and like the writing is soapy. Um, but I'm really beautiful, but like the setting is beautiful.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god. The their outfits, it's Darcy, what's her face? She's so fucking good in it. I feel like she's like standout. She's the star. So funny is really so relatable. Like so fucking relatable.

SPEAKER_04

Just like not feeling quite comfortable in the channel. And like trying like a tryhard. Try hard. A really well-written try hard.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and really well acted. Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_04

Perfect. She deserves to be the star of something.

SPEAKER_05

I know, and I feel like she is the breakout of this. Um I did watch all of four seasons, which is two. One and two. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

What did you think?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I really enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_04

I love it.

SPEAKER_05

But like Coleman Domingo carries the entire show. Like, I truly watched the show for him. I love his relationship with Tina Fey. Like, I love their friendship.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god, I love their friendship so much.

SPEAKER_05

I will say, I was getting like, okay, so I can't remember the characters' names anymore because I'm like pea brained, but like Tina Fey and her husband in the show, I was getting like this is this divorce propaganda? Is this show divorce propaganda?

SPEAKER_04

I always I always think that about them.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Because it's like in most narrat you do not see couples that miserable where it isn't like them divorcing.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. And I was like, what is like, but is this shit like was making me, I almost had to take a break because I was like, do I need to get divorced?

SPEAKER_04

Like 100, but I also because here's the thing, here's what I want. They cannot get divorced now. No. I like seeing like a real marriage. Yeah. Because marriage isn't like you hate each other. You have ups and downs. You hate each other and you're getting divorced, or you love each other and you're not getting divorced. Sometimes you hate each other and you deeply love each other. Totally. And I feel like they do we contain multitudes. We contain multitudes. And I feel like they do such a good job representing like people who like they're different and they butt head but butt heads, but they like love each other. So now I'm like, I will be pissed.

SPEAKER_05

I will be so pissed. They had the opportunity to get them divorced at the end of season one. Like, I feel like they had they had a point where I think people would have been okay. Correct. But now, if they divorce them, I will be so fucking mad. Correct. But yeah, it was making me a little uncomfortable. Um, Steve Carell is just his character from the morning show. It's just it's just me. Like, literally, spoiler alert, dies in the exact fucking same way. I wasn't expecting that.

SPEAKER_04

No, I wasn't either.

SPEAKER_05

I was I was shocked. I was shocked, honey. Spoiler, we're gonna put spoiler alert. Spoiler alert. Yeah, like I was shook over that. I like texted Emily immediately, like in all caps. I was like, holy shit. Um, but then we got to really see Anne like come out of her shell. I hated him, like I hated him.

SPEAKER_04

I was so glad he's dead. No, I think the show greatly improved without his character.

SPEAKER_05

I we did not need another storyline with him and his young girlfriend. Also, my only like by true beef is that like they act like Ginny is a teenager, 12, and she's 32. I'm like, I was married and had a baby, like a newborn at 32. Like, she this is so like just acting like she is so young. I was like, calm the fuck down. Please calm down. Please calm down.

SPEAKER_04

I really hope we're not like that in our 50s, where we're like, you're 30.

SPEAKER_05

No, you still let the bed. Like oh my god, like calm if she were 22 in the show, different.

SPEAKER_04

Knowing me, I'm probably gonna go the opposite where I'm like, we're about the same age. No, that's 100%. Uh, but yeah, so good. I loved it. I I I love four seasons. I can't recommend it.

SPEAKER_05

I'm excited for season three. I'm glad they're getting a season three. It is just like a fun premise. I love Vivaldi. Like the music is so fucking good. I love that they're always on a vacation.

SPEAKER_04

And true dramedy. Like, it's true. True dramedy. It can be miserable to watch because all these people are miserable.

SPEAKER_05

But I L O L.

SPEAKER_04

But you L-O-L.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, it is very funny. Yes. Um, okay. Well, I think I mean we've been recording forever. Five hours. This is actually also the first time we've done this with our kids. Like we let our kids. They did play good. You'll probably stop. They can make fun of your stomp. That's okay. Okay. Listen, they did such a good time. I am a little nervous. I'm hopeful that they're still here. Like at your home. Uh we will find out. All right. Well, um, be sure to like and subscribe wherever you podcast, and leave us a comment, rate you, and then make sure you're following us. Bye bye. Bye.
